Please, help me with my problem.

Upset though she was, she managed to behave cheerfully.

Is the above sentence correct? I mean that though sounds weird; I would use as instead.

'As' would be incorrect. 'Though' shows the contrast of ideas.

I would use as instead.

I was wondering whether some of my fellow learners were also interested in the term "compound sentence" that was used in the title.

1. My books tell me that the OP's sentence is a complex sentence (one main clause = "She managed to behave cheerfully" + at least one subordinate clause = "Upset though she was").

2. I believe that a compound sentence (two or more clauses "each of which is an independent statement") would be something like: "She managed to behave cheerfully, but she was actually upset."
