Hi,

Which one of the following is more natural?

1. She was upset on hearing about the failure.

2. She was upset after hearing about the failure.

Thanks

They don't mean the same thing so it's hard to compare them. Sentence 1 means she became upset as soon as she heard ("on/upon hearing" indicates immediateness). Sentence 2, as it says, means that she became upset afterwards (later).

Neither is particularly natural these days. I'd say:
1. She got upset when she heard about the failure.
2. She got upset after she heard about the failure.
