Could you, please, suggest another synonym for "uncomprehended"?
"I am alive," were the uncomprehended words which, upon recognising the locality of the dissecting-room, he had endeavored, in his extremity, to utter."

The words were not uncomprehended. They were unheard. Perhaps:

"I am alive" were the unheard words which, upon realizing where he was (in the dissecting room) he had endeavored, in his extremity, to utter.

Don't you mean to say that he was in the morgue?

If this is Poe or similar, I agree- he tried to say the words and no one heard as they thought he was dead.

That is my impression. He tried to tell anybody who might be able to hear him that he was alive, but he couldn't make them hear him. (What a nightmare!)
