Paul arrives at the door to the corridor (a long glass corridor connecting his house to an annex) and notices that it's unlocked. He opens it, turns on his flashlight and shines it out into the corridor. Nothing. He turns off the flashlight, closes the door and locks it. Then heads back into the living room.

Is 'out' perfectly OK here? Thanks.

It's unnecessary.

NOTE: AE flashlight = BE torch

... and shines it along the corridor.
In this context, that's an acceptable swap. However, in a different context, it could change the meaning.
