treadmill vs running machine

When you go to a gym, there is a treadmill on which you run for your health. This treadmill is called "running machine" by Koreans and I wonder if any nativer speaker calls it like that.

I would call it a treadmill. A "running machine" indicates a machine that is operating, such as an automobile whose engine has been started and is running.

In the UK, both expressions are commonly used.

Really? I thought "running machine" for "treadmill" is broken English in Korea, but there should be a reason related to the UK. It must have been adopted from British English.
