Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretations of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I am not strait-laced, and I don’t mind seeing a fellow throw in a drink once in a while but when it comes to deliberately trying to get away with a lot of hell – raising all the while like the Doppelbraus do it’s too rich for my blood!

strait-laced = strict; exaggeratedly proper
too rich for my blood = that’s going too far = that’s a bit thick

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V.

Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretations of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

strait-laced = strict; exaggeratedly proper=Excessively strict in behavior, morality, or opinions
too rich for my blood = that’s going too far = that’s a bit thick
This phrase has two figurative uses,
One idea is that something is too expensive for ones budget. This hotel is too rich for my blood.
The other is that it would make oneself feel putting on airs if one were to do or become involved with it. This is a case at a poker table- when the bet gets too high for you to stay in the game, you could say, "it's too rich for my blood" and fold

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V.

You are right.
