They graduated from 2nd lieutenant to first lieutenant. The 'butter bar' is the insignia of the junior rank.

I didn't know until I clicked on the link. I then clicked on 'read more' and found:

She got promoted from 2nd lieutenant to 1st lieutenant. Her old rank insignia looks like a stick of butter. The new one is silver.

Obvious when you cheat.
