Have I used "bank balance" correctly and naturally in this sentence? Does it work?

I follow the latest fashion trends to the extent my bank balance allows me.
 
You might change "follow." That just implies that you watch trends. The second part of the sentence implies that you actually buy things.

Perhaps:

I keep up with the latest trends (buying this and that) as my bank balance allows.
 
Does this work?

I try to buy the latest fashion trends items to the extent my bank balance allows me.
