In the phrase "to mete out death as a punishment," does it mean to measure the extent of the crime and give death as a proper punishment?
In the phrase "to mete out death as a punishment," does it mean to measure the extent of the crime and give death as a proper punishment?
I used to mean "to measure" also. It's now archaic.mete is to seperate into parts and distribute
