Which of the above are correct?
 
It depends on what you mean by "to make somebody better/a better person".

I can't see how sickness makes one a better person but there's a saying "adversity makes one stronger".

If you are talking self-improvement, yes, there are infinite ways (not method as in performing a task) to achieve that.
 
You're asking about reflexive pronouns.

If you use I, use myself
If you use he, use himself
