Is the expression "to make bad mistakes in grammar/spelling" natural? Can "bad mistake" be associated with studies?

If you use "bad mistake", what's a "good mistake"?

I don't know. I also thought about it when I saw in a textbook (not made by native speakers) the following: He speaks Spanish badly. He makes bad mistakes. If it's wrong, what is the best adjective to describe very"rude"grammar mistakes? His grammar is poor. He makes ..... rude? mistakes.

If someone could make a slight mistake or a terrible mistake, I guess he or she could equally well make a bad mistake.
Of course there is no good mistake.

Not a teacher

Logically, yes, but we need native speakers to confirm or deny it.

I confirm it.

I am not a teacher.

Of course it's OK. Bad isn't always to be contrasted with good.

What about 'a bad accident' or 'a bad headache'? It's just a degree of severity, as it is in a bad mistake.

We tend to use "glaring errors" rather than "glaring mistakes". I would use "serious mistake" rather than "big mistake" though. However, I take the point that "bad" does not always have to be contrasted with "good". I was being a little facetious.

Of course you were.

When I do that there's always someone to tell me that my remark is inappropriate or misleading for learners. :-(
I ought to use more emoticons. ;-)
