Does the expression 'to engage well with somebody' exist in English? If yes, is it widely used?
Can I say 'The teacher should engage well with the students'?

Not a teacher.

It doesn't, but what exactly are you trying to say? If you meant to say something like: "to create a meaningful connection", then you can say just that or: "to form a strong bond".

I think "engage" doesn't go with the adverb, "well". Other similar verbs like interact/get on/relate/mix do, though.

I have no problem with "engage well" in some contexts. I don't think it works in the original though. You might see on a child's school report "Engages well with other children" or in a psychiatric report "Is beginning to engage well with others".

I don't think it's used much, but I also think it would be understood.

Well, it's better than the alternative.

The teacher and the students have a common goal, so in that sense they're working together.
