to do vs to make a gesture

Hello, I am trying to understand if I should use "to do" or "to make" when someone does a gesture with their hand like hang loose gesture, I don't know if I use "to make" people will understand like create a new gesture.

Use "make"; "do" is wrong.
Take a look at the ngram plot for those. It clearly tells you which one is the correct one.
