Hi. I'm writing a script.

We're at a karaoke bar. A guy is on stage, singing.

The guy finishes his song to big applause.

Is this sentence written well? Does it just mean that the people at the bar start clapping when he finishes his song? Thanks.

Hi. I'm writing a script.

We're at a karaoke bar. A guy is on stage, singing.

The guy finishes his song to big loud/rapturous/appreciative applause.

Is this sentence written well? It's OK but look at my improvement above. We don't say "big applause". We can say "Give that man a big clap!"

Does it just mean that the people at the bar start clapping when he finishes his song? They might start clapping as soon as he finishes or they might even have started shortly before the end.

Thanks. Unnecessary. Thank us after we help you by adding the "Thanks" icon to any helpful post.

While I agree with @emsr2d2 I'd note that the phrase "a big hand" is common in AmE for a big round of applause.
