Hello :)

I've noticed that some people add a tilde ~ after a quotation and before the person's name. For example:

"Blah blah blah blah blah." ~ John Johnson

Is this a standard things in English? Or it is just a thing invented by people on the Internet?

Thanks.

It's not standard in written English.

Somebody else can answer the second part of the question.
