Have I made any mistakes?

Throughout history, different philosophical schools and philosophers had different ideas about the meaning of life. While some held that the meaning of life was in pleasure and happiness, others had a complete opposite view and believed that it was in suffering and pain.

It could be improved.

1) There's no need for the first different.
2) I'd swap the order of philosophical schools and philosophers.
3) Use the present perfect in the first sentence.
4) Say either the complete opposite or a completely opposite.
5) Change and believed to , believing.

Would this version be OK?

You've missed my point number 3.

Another thing, which I missed before, is your use of the past tense was in the second sentence. Use is instead.

Now you've missed in in the second sentence.

Apart from that, it's fine.
