Dear friends, could you please paraphrase the underlined part of the excerpt? What would you use instead of 'through'?

Here it is: "And thus all narratives upon this topic have an interest profound; an interest, nevertheless, which, through the sacred awe of the topic itself, very properly and very peculiarly depends upon our conviction of the truth of the matter narrated."

A couple of options which come to mind would be 'due to' or 'because of'.

"due to the sacred awe of the topic itself'
"because of the sacred awe of the topic itself"

Stories about this command our interest as long as can believe in the truth of the tale because of the awe the topic carries.
