Hi,

Question:
Should I say “them or those”?

Sentence:
When I explained some necessary complex ideas, I explained them/those using examples.

My opinion:
“Them” should be correct, and “those” should be incorrect. However, the grammar checking system of MS word suggests “those” is correct.

Thanks

The correct word is "them" but the sentence is quite repetitive.

To explain complex ideas, I used examples.
I used examples to [help] explain complex ideas.
When I must explain complex ideas, I find using examples help make them more clear.
