A substantial proportion of religious-Right voters care about, or at least vote on, only one issue: abortion. They swallowed their distaste for Donald Trump’s hypocrisy and (by their lights) egregious sinfulness and voted for him because of just one thing. He promised (and, as we now know, alas, delivered) a U.S. Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade.
-Richard Dawkins

Does "They swallowed their distaste for Donald Trump’s hypocrisy" mean "They ignored their dislike for Donald Trump’s hypocrisy and supported him"?

Without the bit I crossed out, basically yes.

It's more than just "ignored". "Swallowed" conjures up in the reader's mind:
1- Swallow one's pride.

2- A bitter pill to swallow.

And that is reinforced with "distaste".
In other words, the author is using language techniques to make a strong point there.

They voted for him because he promised abortion, and ignored the characteristics of his makeup that would make them concerned normally.
