Can the sentence below be completed with any of the following? None of them sound right to me, but at the same time, I can't tell why or what precisely is wrong with them.
"A god stuck his people with furious anger because...
a) ...there was no temple of his in the city."
b) ...there was no temple of him in the city."
c) ...there wasn't his temple in the city."
d) ...there wasn't a temple of him in the city."
e) ...there wasn't a temple of his in the city."
I'd go with a complete rephrasal and say "...there was no temple dedicated to him in the city", but I'd like to know if any of the above would fit, too.
