Hello, teachers. Is it correct to use the bold to refer to the underlined? Also, which one of the bold parts should I use? Thanks.

Many people become self-employed in an effort to keep their work and personal life in balance. Nevertheless, the/this? leap/step/transition? can bring a lot of stress.
