"STATEMENT REGARDING STABILITY PACT SUMMIT FOR SOUTH EASTERN EUROPE
The Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe will be held on 29-30 July 1999 in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At this summit, Turkey will be represented by President H.E. [Süleyman Demirel], accompanied by Foreign Minister H.E. İsmail Cem.
The Stability Pact is an initiative launched by the European Union (EU) to contribute to the establishment of a lasting peace and stability in the Balkans in the post Kosovo Crisis period, reconstruction of the region as well as economic development and democratization of the region.
The Stability Pact was ratified at the meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers held on 10 June 1999 in Cologne with the participation of 28 countries and more than twenty international and regional institutions. As a full participant, Turkey has actively participated in all phases of the Pact from the very beginning and contributed to the efforts.
At the Sarajevo summit, it is aimed that the Stability Pact will be implemented and gain momentum, and also it is expected that resolutions on institutional entities in the Pact will be ratified into effect."
