The subway is an assault on your senses.


Will it be OK if I understand 'assault' as 'attack' and 'on your senses' as 'in a sense'?
 
Yes, an assault is an attack.

No, "on your senses" is not "in a sense."

You enter the subway and your eyes, your ears, your nose are all assaulted by the conditions. It's not an assault in some way of thinking about it ("in a sense") it is an assault on your senses.
