I wrote two sentences and I am trying to write long sentences using comma and avoid using a full stop or linking words. Are the following sentences correct?

1-The previous study conducted in psychology shows that children copy their parents' actions since the early stage, aquiring values and directions from their family, imitating what they see around them.
I used the gerund form in bold to refer to children.

2-The course provides the students with the necessary skills to improve and brush up on French writing, consists of six chapters and covers the the writing skills from A to Z.
The word "consists" refers to the course. I omit the subject and add a comma and then add "consists".

Perhaps:

A previous study (prior to this one) indicated that children mimic their parents' behavior starting at a very early age.

Thanks. I guess mimic is more precise than copy.

Are the commas usages correct in the two paragraphs?

@Tarheel It looks fine to me.

The second is possible, but the first is not. You can, for example, add "and" after "imitating" to make it work. Note also the correct spelling of "acquiring".

Thank you so much.

May I ask you if you please do you mean add "and" before "imitating" ? Adding it after imitating seems incorrect to me.

If I added "and" after imitating, the sentence will be

@mrmvp As Jutfrank already said, the phrase is "imitating what they see around them".

What study was that? (You don't need a study to know that stuff.)

What do you mean by "the early stage"?

Values are imparted both implicitly and explicitly.

I don't know how "directions" got in there at all.

The imitating is largely unconscious. (It depends on age somewhat.)

(Say "would be" there.)

I might have missed something.
