1. The police searched for the lost boy in the woods.
2. The police searched the woods for the lost boy.
(By me.)

Are the two sentences both correct and do they have the same meaning?
 
They're both correct but they don't have the same meaning. Sentence 2 means that the police searched the whole area. Sentence 1 mentions only the place in which they were searching.
