The options in the multiple choice questions

Hi,

He ate ... apple.

a) An
b) A

OR

a) an
b) a

The first letter of the options in the multiple choice questions should be capital or small?
 
It should fit into the gap. If it needs to be capitalised in the sentence, only then should it be listed with a capital.

a) He ate An apple.
b) He ate A apple.
c) He ate an apple.
d) He ate a apple.

Which one do you think is right?
 
Here in the South we would say "a apple". šŸ˜Š (I don't. I'm not from the South.)
