-I truly believe that of the two benefits outlined above, to be open-minded about different ways of thinking is the more important for a country.

When is correct to use more important and the most important? and which sentence is right?

The word "more" is a comparative. (You are comparing two things.) The word "most" is a superlative. (You are comparing more than two things.)

so, as I am comparing two benefits, it would be right "the more important", wouldn't it? It looks weird for me to write the more important.

Yes, you are right. Between two things, one might be more important. (I wanted you to figure it out for yourself, and you did.)

You don't have to use "the" there. For example, you could say:

Between these two things this one is more important.
