Could you help me rephrase the sentence in the title. Supposing I need to write a description of the meeting.

There was a staff meeting on 22 December. The meeting was attended by ten employees and the manager. First, they discussed...., then they worked out a schedule .....etc.

What are other ways to say the phrase in bold so that it would fit this context properly?

Yes, of course, the active voice can be used, too. I can easily make a separate sentence with it. But I need the native speakers' opinion if it's possible to say the same, but using some other words so that it wouldn't sound unnatural in the given context.
