Why is there no definite article before "Hudson Bay"?

You've asked the wrong question. You should ask why there is a definite article before San Francisco Bay.

Please provide the whole context.
 
There's no apparent need to use the before San Francisco Bay in that context, so you can ignore this example. It's not going to help you understand articles.
