[Grammar] The hobo searched inside the scattered photos

Hello.

Are the following sentences grammatically correct?

"The hobo searched inside the scattered photos he had on the floor, choosing the one he considered appropriate to give to Tim. At that precise moment, he understood many things about his hobo's extravagant behavior."

It's grammatical. For better syntax, say "his extravagant hobo behavior."
 
The phrase "his hobo" seems rather strange to me.

Are the following sentences grammatically correct?

"The hobo searched inside the scattered photos he had on the floor,

I don't like the opening at all. How does one search "inside" photos? I'd say "The hobo searched through the photos that were scattered on the floor ..." or "The hobo searched through the photos he had scattered on the floor ..." (if he were responsible for the scattering).
