Would you please correct my mistakes in this text?

When Linda received the news that her mother had died in hospital, she was relieved and sad at the same time. She had seen her mother being drunk ever since she could remember. She would return from school only to find her imbibing wine or beer, usually in large quantities. Linda had to cook dinner for herself because her mother wasn't in a fit state. She loved her mother, but it hurt her to see that alcohol had become an impenetrable barrier in between them. She blamed her also for the breakup of the marriage with her father. He had to run away because he couldn't stand her drinking and the arguments they had almost daily. She watched her schoolmates walking with their mothers in town, buying clothes, books, ice cream, or going to the cinema while she stood alone. She felt as if a wound was growing inside her with no chance to heal properly.

She put her telephone aside, and her eyes fell on her mother's paintings on the walls. Tears sprang into her eyes. You were so talented, mum, she thought. You could have become famous if you had only tried and had a strong will.

She was going to call Peter so that they together arrange the funeral. Her brother had given up on their mother years ago, because as he told Linda their mother drained all the energy from him, but she knew he was going to help her this time. Her mother's last wish would be fulfilled: Eva Cassidy would sing Who Knows Where the Time Goes, and everyone would be crying.

I would change the second sentence. Perhaps:

She had seen her mother drinking of drunk ever since she could remember.

Say:

She loved her mother, but it hurt her that alcohol had become an impenetrable barrier between them.

Say:

She was going to call Peter so that they together could arrange the funeral.
