Have I made any mistakes?

The demonstrators accused the police of being brutal, but the police replied that if the demonstrators had behaved properly there wouldn't have been need for police intervention at all.

The police could let the ,demonstrators" injure people and destroy property or make arrests.

The police are also often accused of being heavy-handed in the UK.

People who loot businesses and set fire to cars (and other things) are likely to have a negative attitude towards the police.

The owners of damaged properties often feel the same way. ;-)

I would think they would have a negative attitude towards the looters/rioters.
