I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. I believe that the second part of my second sentence "on whose side was the law" is not natural, but I could not remember any better phrase.
The argument between two neighbours about the fence gradually developed into the conflict involving the whole village. Some supported one man and others another, without bothering to know on whose side was the law.
