A testimonial dinner is a banquet to honour someone.

In my part of the world it's not uncommon for people who donate large sums to hospitals to have a room or a ward named after them. A whole wing might be named after someone who donated enough to build it --- a very large sum indeed.

If you want people to say nice things about you, give them money. 😊

As for getting a hospital wing named after you, a million dollars ought to do it.
