"terrain" vs "landscape"

Hi,

Patriots won the war partly because they were more familiar with the rough terrains (or landscape) of the continent than the British solidiers."

"Terrain" or "landscape"? Which one is better in here?

You need an article before "Patriot."

I would say "terrain" (singular).
