Please, help me with the following (American English) sentence:

This silver key is for the main door. The gold key is for your room. This is your temporary identification badge. When Personnel take your mug shot, you’ll get a permanent badge.

(A hospital caretaker addresses to an intern newcomer.)

When you are arrested, part of the booking procedure is to take your "mug shot" -- your photograph. It is sometimes used for any official process that requires your pictures. Driver's license, work ID, etc.
 
"Mug" would be old-fashioned slang for your face, like "He's got an ugly mug on him, doesn't he?"
