Hello!
Can anyone help me understand what Mr. Kriedler meant by:
"In can't. shan't. don V. and won 't /n/ is not syllabic; /n/ is syllabic in some pronunciations of aren 't and weren 't. not syllabic in other pronunciations." ?

I don't understand 'don V.', but it means what it says. A syllabic consonant is one that constitutes a syllable. Can't, shan't, don't and won't are always monosyllabic. Aren't and weren't are sometimes one and sometimes two.
