Surfing the internet or surfing on the internet?

Some say surf through net, which is even more metaphoric.
 
It's a new area so usage may vary- you'll find surf on the net used sometimes, though the tendency seems to be to use no preposition. I actually don't hear the verb surf used that much nowadays either- I don't know whether other people hear it as much as before.

I agree that "surf" doesn't seem to be used as much these days. If someone asks me what I'm doing, I'm more likely to say "I'm on the net".
