Subject too long: Not sure about which (subject) is...or which is (subject) ?

I've got one little question:?::

When the subject is too long can the verb change its position? For example: I'm not sure about which the right expression to refer to the place where flowers are safely kept throughout the winter is. ->

Can it be 'I'm not sure about which is...'? Or is it plain wrong?

I wouldn't say it is plain wrong, though I would be more likely to use what unless you are working from a list of choices.

When a sentence is as unwieldy as yours, it is best to rephrase it, shorten it, and simplify it.

Agreed- but if you must go for that sort of wording, then I think both positions work.
