What does "strike" mean in this context?

These are early days in the Gerrard era but it has been a promising beginning. After falling behind to Harvey Barnes’ 14th-minute strike, centre back Ezri Konsa scored twice in front of Gareth Southgate to lift Villa into the top half of the table, above Leicester on goal difference.

It diesn't always mean a goal, but when it has a time like this, it's a goal.

Kontol, If you had bookmarked OneLook, you would have seen that 'strike' can mean a hit or kick of a ball, especially one with which you score a goal or a point.
