Sticky situation

Hi,

When someone experiences a sticky moment such as kissing a girl he thought he knew, gets a slap and everybody start laughing, we have a term in French 'se ramasser un bide' or 'levar um mico' in Portuguses.
You must have a similar term in English. What is it?

And in BrE, we can say ass, pronounced /æs/, or arse, pronounced [FONT=&quot]/ɑ:s/. The former is the animal, often though of as stupid. The latter is that part of our body upon which we sit; it can also mean stupid person, idiot[/FONT]

:up:... and in the format of 'I made an X of myself', you can vary X at will (depending on context). (You wouldn't, for example, say 'I made a pillock of myself' if you were at a vicar's tea party.)

Yes. I'm sure there are lots of regional words that could substitute in this expression.
BTW, in Aus, "I made an ass of myself" means "a fool".
"I made an arse of myself" tends to be stronger, and suggests that you did something quite offensive, meriting more social condemnation.
