Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the verb in bold in the following sentence?

Then, every time, his left wing stalled on an upstroke, he'd roll violently left, stall his right wing recovering, and flick like fire into a wild tumbling spin to the right. (Jonathan Livingston Seagull)

stall = temporize

V.

stall = temporize.
No; 'stop suddenly through lack of power/speed' . It is normally engines that stall.

5. a condition of an aircraft in flight in which a reduction in speed or an increase in the aircraft's angle of attack causes a sudden loss of lift resulting in a downward plunge
stall: the condition of an airfoil or aircraft (or, in this case, a seagull) in which excessive angle of attack causes disruption of airflow with attendant loss of lift

The wing isn't helping the flying object stay aloft any longer.
