Hi All,

Could someone please explain the meaning of speaking strategies?

I thought that speech elements such as word stress, sentence stress,

intonation, vowels and consonants were all speaking strategies that we taught students to help them improve their oral skills.

Recently, I looked up speaking strategies and read that "conversational skills" such as asking for information, or learning how to interrupt politely were considered speaking strategies.

Are these all speech strategies?

I appreciate all responses,

Cha

I would regard strategies as the skills required like how to interrupt rather than vowels and consonants. Intonation, which can be used to create meaning would fall into the strategies camp.
