Something put on hold?What does the phrase mean, put on hold?
 
It means to temporarily suspend something. For example, you call me to find out whether you can buy something at my shop. I put you on hold while I check whether I have it in stock. Or, on a whole other level, I decide to put my university education on hold in order to spend a year in India.
