Have I made any mistakes?

Someone had dug up all the Thompsons' plants while they were on a holiday. Had John known who who had done it, he would have killed him or them on the spot. Bea howled as if they had murdered her children. She had sunk to the ground and picked forlornly among the broken stalks and scattered leaves, her tears soaking the soil. Their two teenager daughters stood motionless in front of the destroyed garden, glancing at their parents in distress. The family was notorious for their loud parties, which often ended with the arrival of the police.

John glared at the surrounding houses, which showed no signs of life. Rage was boiling inside him. Behind those walls and expensive curtains sat the culprit, laughing at him, enjoying in his pain. He clenched his fist in the pocket of his jacket. He was going to clean the garden and then throw the biggest party ever. Let them boil with envy. Let them call the police again and again. The party would go on until dawn and everyone would have fun as never before. Their neighbours can go to hell!

...while they were on holiday.

Say:

Had John known who did it he would have killed them on the spot.

She sat on the ground ....

teenaged daughters

The last sentence in the first paragraph doesn't go with the rest.

Would this version be OK instead of the last sentence in the first paragraph?

No doubt this was in revenge for the loud parties the Thompsons frequently threw, and not bothering about the noise and their neighbourhood.

Perhaps:

He suspected--no, knew-- that it had to do with the loud parties they had been having there at night.

Or something like that.
