He also seems to be one of the most generous people as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $30 billion to some of (the?) poorest nations.


Would it also be correct If I used the before the superlative adjective poorest?
 
It's incorrect without "the". You can't say "... has donated $30 billion to some of poorest nations".
 
One thing:

Was I correct that no the (is?) included in Answer Key?

I don't understand your question. Only the poorest nations is possible there. If the answer key omits the, it's wrong.
 
I think it was testing whether you would add "the" or not. The same thing is tested by:

"He also seems to one of ____________ (generous) people". You correctly completed that with "the most generous".

Similarly "... has donated $30 billion to some of _________ (poor) countries" should have been completed with "the poorest".
 
Least Developed Countries is, I believe, the term de nos jours.
