Hello, I was wondering can someone please explain to me in the following example why the answer is 'despite' and not 'nevertheless'. I know what the correct answer is but am struggling to explain to my students why.

"The company decided to give her a chance,_____ doubts regarding her ability to perform such high level tasks."

Could someone please give as much grammatical detail as possible. It is not my strong point.

Thank You :)

We need a preposition, despite, not an adverb, nevertheless here.

''Despite ''is used with nouns, not sentences.Nevertheless is required a sentence and it is used for contrasted result.
