Hi,

Are there any commonly used derogatory, colloquial expressions (in Am. English) names for the following things:

1) A programmer/developer that is not very good at his job, lazy and stereotypical.
2) A school teacher
3) A low-level office worker that sticks to his computer all day, does a lot of routine job and can be easily replaced by others.

Thank you in advance,
Val.

In BrE, no.

'Hack' might be used for 1 and 3. A hack is a person who slaves away at a lowly job, often in the office area.
3. a. One who undertakes unpleasant or distasteful tasks for money or reward; a hireling.
b. A writer hired to produce routine or commercial writing.

I can't think of any for 2.

Number 3 is sometimes derisively referred to as a "desk monkey" in AmE.

NOT A TEACHER
Number 2, "pedagogue" means teacher, especially a dull, formal, or pedantic one. However, it's a formal word, and I don't suppose it really is a derogatory term. Am I wrong?

1. A teacher. "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."

2. A low-level office worker. "A paper pusher."

This word isn't used much. It can mean a strict teacher, but it isn't derogatory IMO.

I agree that there is nothing derogatory about "pedagogue" but I have an inherent problem saying something derogatory about teachers in general.

"Drone" is another word for #3.

Martinet is a derogatory term for a strict disciplinarian teacher.
