Hi everyone, are there any mistakes or repetitions in this piece of writing? Any help will be much appreciated.

*************************************************************************
Weifeng's father had once said. “The young soak up knowledge like a dry cloth, it is best to choose at least some of what gets soaked up, than just allowing it to be random”. Weifeng loved watching Lanhua practice, after showing her how to do something, all she needed to do then was give her a task and leave her to it. Only occasionally would Lanhua stop to ask for advice. Eventually, Lanhua finished the design Weifeng had given her, or at least she thought she had. Weifeng said. “That is only the first part, next, is making those lines you carved deeper, how much deeper depends on the perception of the distance you wish to create.
