should it be in the sky or on the sky, what's the different?

May I know are the following the sentences correct :

1) This morning the sun was shining brightly on the sky.

2) Today the sun is shining brightly up in the sky.

3) The sun is shining brightly up on the sky.

4) The sun is shining brigtly in the middle of the sky.

"In the sky" works for me. As I know the following children's song:
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

It's always 'in the sky', but your sentences have other problems.

#2 is the best of them, but 'up in the sky' is redundant, as the sun never shines anywhere else.

'...in the middle of the sky' is an odd expression. It can only be said to be there at noon on the equator.

Today the sun is shining brightly [STRIKE]up[/STRIKE] in the sky.

This is the right version for me.
